Hi everyone,

I’m currently in my second year as a Data Engineer at a consulting firm, working primarily on platforms focused on Data Management, Data Quality, and Data Governance. In my role as both a Data Engineer and Product Specialist, I’m mainly responsible for implementing data quality controls and managing ETL processes — rather than designing the frameworks myself. Most of the clients I work with are in the banking and financial services industry.

My plan is to stay in this role for the next three years before transitioning into either a Product Manager or Data Governance Manager position.

To further build my expertise and support this career path, I’m considering pursuing the CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification, aiming for the Professional level with specializations in Data Governance and Data Quality.

My question is regarding the certification costs — are the specialization exams included in the main CDMP exam fee, or do they require additional payment?

I would also appreciate any career advice based on my current trajectory. Although I have just seven months of experience, I’m highly motivated and committed to pursuing a long-term goal of becoming a Chief Data Officer within the next 10–15 years.

TL;DR: First-year Data Engineer aiming for CDMP Professional level with Data Governance & Data Quality specializations. Unsure if specialization exam fees are separate. Looking for career and certification advice with the long-term goal of becoming a Chief Data Officer.

Hey, reading this made me think about how far iGaming has come, because I used to be curious about the tech side but ended up just playing instead. I bounced around a few online casіno sessions, hit a frustrating losing streak, then decided to push a bit harder and landed on spinmama right in the middle of a late-night run. I tried a slot game, took a slightly bigger risk, and finally hit a win that flipped my mood fast. It reminded me that while platforms and tech matter, the real hook is still that moment when patience pays off.

Pursuing the DAMA International CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) is a smart move based on your current path. Since you’re already working hands‑on with data quality controls, ETL, and governance-focused projects, the certification will help formalize your knowledge and strengthen your credibility — especially if you’re targeting Product Manager or Data Governance Manager roles and, long term, a CDO position.

Regarding costs, the specialization exams are typically separate from the main CDMP exam fee. The core exam covers general data management knowledge, and each specialization (like Data Governance or Data Quality) usually requires an additional exam and payment. So plan your budget accordingly and confirm with the official DAMA testing provider before registering.

Career-wise, you’re on the right track. A few suggestions that could really accelerate your growth:

Get deeper exposure to framework design, not just implementation

Lead small governance initiatives or documentation efforts

Learn stakeholder communication and business alignment (important for Product/Management roles)

Build domain expertise in banking/finance since that’s your client base

Understanding how data connects to real business operations is key. For example, in financial institutions, processes like FAB Bank Statement Online from First Abu Dhabi Bank rely heavily on strong data governance, accuracy, and compliance — exactly the kind of controls you’re learning to manage. Seeing these practical applications helps bridge technical skills with strategic leadership, which is essential for a future CDO.

Overall, CDMP + hands-on governance experience + business exposure is a powerful combination. Stay consistent, take ownership of projects, and you’ll be well positioned for that long-term goal.
