Hi everyone,
I am currently planning a SharePoint Document Library migration from one SharePoint environment to another and looking for advice from people who have handled similar migrations.
Our organization has a large amount of business data stored in SharePoint document libraries, including project documents, reports, shared files, and important records. We need to move this content to another SharePoint site while ensuring that the file structure, metadata, permissions, version history, and document properties remain intact.
I understand that SharePoint provides options like moving and copying files between locations, but for larger migrations, I am concerned about limitations, manual effort, and the possibility of losing important information during the transfer. Microsoft also highlights that migration planning is important when moving content between SharePoint locations, especially when dealing with large volumes of files and destination configurations.

I would like to know the best approach for this type of migration:
  • What is the recommended method for migrating a complete SharePoint Document Library?
  • How can we preserve metadata, permissions, and version history?
  • Is it better to use native SharePoint tools or a dedicated migration solution?
  • What challenges should we expect during a large-scale migration?
  • How can we validate that all documents have migrated successfully?
One of our main priorities is reducing downtime and avoiding disruption for users who depend on these documents daily. We also want to make sure that the new SharePoint environment remains organized and easy to manage after migration.
I have been researching different migration solutions and came across Shoviv SharePoint Migrator, which is designed to help organizations migrate SharePoint data securely with features focused on maintaining data integrity and simplifying complex migration tasks.
If anyone has experience migrating SharePoint Document Libraries between sites or tenants, I would appreciate your recommendations, best practices, and lessons learned. Any real-world advice would be helpful before we start the migration process.
